Charles R. Stursma
Charles Stursma, son of Pete and Jean Vos Stursma, was born December 26, 1934, at home in Mahaska County, Iowa. He passed away January 18, 2005, at the Pella Regional Health Center in Pella at the age of seventy years and twenty-three days.
Chuck attended the Peoria Christian Grade School, completing the eighth grade. On June 12, 1956, he was united in marriage with Gerdena Van Wyk at Sully. To this union three daughters were born: Sandy, Deb and Pam.
He was a member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella. He was baptized and made profession of faith at the Peoria Christian Reformed Church at an early age. Chuck enjoyed driving the church van for senior citizens for several years. Chuck was a faithful and loving husband, father, and grandfather; his family always came first. He also enjoyed camping, working on antique Case tractors, riding his bike, working in his flower garden and maintaining his meticulous yard at home. Chuck had served on the Board of Directors of the Garden Chapel Funeral Home for several years.
He is survived by his wife, Gerdena; three daughters and their spouses: Sandy and Bruce Vos of Pella, Deb and Richard Vande Voort of Leighton, and Pam Van Gorp of Pella; seven grandchildren, Brian and Emily Vos, Nathan, Cole and Danielle Vande Voort, and Tylor and Paige Van Gorp; one sister and her husband, Carol and Ed Keuning of Pella; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Carolyn Van Wyk, Joyce Van Wyk, Arvena Van Wyk, Marilyn Van Wyk, Anna Mae and Herman Van Mersbergen, and Elvin and Betty Van Wyk all of Pella; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his parents-in-law: Will D. and Nellie Bruxvoort Van Wyk; brothers-in- law: Armour, Delmer, Wallace, Dennis, and Norman Van Wyk; and sisters-in-law: Joyce Van Wyk and Patricia Van Wyk.
