Harry W. Lanser

Harry William Lanser, son of Arie and Jennie Elizabeth Baarda Lanser, was born November 24, 1927, on the family farm north of Sully, Iowa. He passed away May 1, 2005, at the Hospice Comfort House in Pella at the age of seventy-seven years, five months, and seven days.

He attended Spring Hill Grade School and later Pilot Grove School where he graduated from the eighth grade. He served his country in the Iowa National Guard for eight years.

On May 11, 1951, Harry was united in marriage with Neva Van Der Kamp at the Newton Christian Reformed Church. To this union five children were born: Nancy Carol, Marcia Diane, Rodney William, Brenda Sue, and Brian Jay.

Harry was a life long mechanic and owned his own shop, Sully Sales & Repair, on the Sully square for five years. He worked for several area businesses through the years but had been employed by Hackert Sales & Service since 1974.

Harry professed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ at a young age at the Newton Christian Reformed Church. In 1960 Harry and Neva moved to Sully where they became members of the Sully Christian Reformed Church. He served as an elder, deacon, adult Sunday School teacher, and was a member of the Men's Society. Harry had a special love for music. As a young man he enjoyed singing in a quartet and in later years was a faithful member of the church choir. His favorite pasttime was golfing, fishing, gardening, and "tinkering."

He is survived by his wife, Neva; his four children and their spouses: Marcia and Earl Rozendaal of Lynnville, Rodney and Sandra Lanser of Pella, Brenda and Arvin "Scotty" De Nooy of Sully, and Brian and Monica Lanser of Lynnville; sixteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers: Louis Lanser and Dean Lanser both of Newton; one sister, Wilma H. Carson of Newton. Preceding him in death were his parents; and his daughter, Nancy.

Harry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and a man devoted to his Lord and Savior. He will by missed by his family and friends who will forever cherish their memories of him.
