Lenora Boertje
Lenora Boertje, the daughter of Andrew and Jennie Lautenbach Van Zante, was born May 9, 1928, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2005, at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House at the age of seventy-seven years. Lenora graduated from Pella High School. On December 5, 1946, she was united in marriage with C. Henry Boertje at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Henry passed away March 6, 2001. Lenora was a homemaker and later was employed at the Jasper County Assessor's Office. She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sully as well as a member of the Ladies Quilt Guild. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking, reading, and traveling. She loved music and played the piano and the Hawaiian guitar. Lenora was full of life, had a clever sense of humor, and enjoyed her family. She was an inventive type person. She was instrumental in creating the first Sully Library. Nutrition was very important in her cooking and way of life. She was a very loving, caring, and compassionate person. Lenora loved visiting with friends and family. She is survived by her two sons and their wives: John and Rochelle Boertje of Kimberling City, Missouri, Larry and Ramona Boertje of Flower Mound, Texas; a daughter, Nancy Boertje of Sully, Iowa; five grandchildren: Adam Boertje, Shelley Scripture, Brooks Boertje, Brian Boertje, and Lindsey Boertje; six great grandchildren: Tyler, Ryan, and Logan Boertje and Connor, Cameron, and Coleman Scripture; two sisters: Elizabeth Mitchel of Pella, Iowa and Marjorie McNee of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Lenora was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and her parents-in-law. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be missed by her family and a host of friends. |
