Duek Kuangvanh

Duek Kuangvanh, son of Kor Kuangvanh and Hong Lothi, was born February 6, 1932, in Vietnam. He passed away on October 2, 2005, at the Hospice Comfort House in Pella at the age of seventy-three years.

On May 10, 1952, Duek was united in marriage with One Lothi in Vietnam. To this union two daughters and four sons were born: Xiane, Xeuam, Puang, Lua, Sua, and Chanh. Duek received his education in Vietnam, completing the eighth grade. He later served in the Vietnam military.

After the family moved to the United States, Duek was employed as a factory worker in Keokuk, Iowa, where the family resided. He retired at the age of sixty-five and lived in Denison, Iowa, for a period of time before moving to Pella, Iowa. Duek and his family have been residents in Pella, for the last twelve years.

He was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Pella. He enjoyed the outdoors and his favorite sport was fishing.

He is survived by his wife, One; two daughters: Xiane Chounlamany and her husband, Souphasavath, Xeuam Kuangthi and her husband, Ko Xayavongvane; four sons: Puang Kuangvanh, Lua Kuangvanh, Sua Kuangvanh and his wife, Seana, Chanh Kuangvanh and his wife, Boualaphanh; and thirteen grandchildren: Khas, Von, and Jason Chounlamany, Linda and Vinson Xayavongvane, Amber Lynn Kuangvanh, Tasha, Tyron, Nitsa, Tim, Erica Kuangvanh, Jonathan and Bobby Kuangvanh, and one great-grandson, Aidan Lovan.

Duek will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be missed by his family and friends.
