Emma Hiemstra

Emma Hiemstra, daughter of Harry and Helena (Van Rees) Hiemstra, was born November 24, 1910 near Otley, Iowa. She passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2005 at the Pella Hospice Comfort House at the age of ninety-five years and twenty-one days.

She lived on a farm near Otley for many years before moving to Pella. Emma worked at the Rolscreen (Pella Corporation) for twenty-five years before retiring. She was also a caregiver for her mother and father as their health declined.

In her spare time she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking, working in her garden and doing crossword puzzles. Emma was also an excellent seamstress and made many quilts which she hand quilted. Her favorite color was blue and her favorite scripture verse was Psalm 23. Traveling was also one of Emma's favorite things to do. She went on many tours throughout her lifetime.

Emma was a member of the First Reformed Church in Pella for many years. She was actively involved in the Elizabeth Circle and quilting group at her church.

She is survived by her brother, Andrew Hiemstra and her sister, Jessie Van Vark both of Pella.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Edward and Leonard Hiemstra; and a sister, Anna (Hiemstra) Bothof.
