Donald M. De Zwarte

Donald M. De Zwarte, son of Ed and Jennie Mol De Zwarte, was born December 23, 1921, on a farm between Pella and Knoxville, Iowa. He passed away at the Pella Comfort House on May 16, 2006, at the age of eighty-four years.

On August 26, 1942, Donald was united in marriage with Ruth Goemaat in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. To this union two children were born: Mike and Kathy.

Donald and Ruth lived in Pella for the last forty-eight years. Prior to that he ran a grocery store in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, farmed near Melcher/Dallas, sold cars and tractors in Corydon, Iowa, and most recently he worked at Vermeer Manufacturing for twenty-five years, retiring at the age of sixty-two. After retiring he mowed lawns for various Pella residents.

Donald was a an active member of the Church of the Open Bible in Pella. He could often be found at garage sales. He was well known for seldom paying full price for anything he purchased. He had a knack for finding bargains.

Those he leaves to cherish his memory are: his wife, Ruth; one son, Mike De Zwarte of Pella; one daughter, Kathy and her husband, David Willemesen of Springfield, Missouri; and two grandchildren: Christa and Josh Willemsen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Harold De Zwarte; and two sisters, Evelena Langstraat and Janette Gezel.

Donald will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be missed by his family and his many friends.
