George Henry De Wit, Jr., son of George Dean and Effie Kamerick De Wit, was born August 1, 1942 in Pella, Iowa. He passed away at the Veteran's Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, on Thursday, October 12, 2006.
George attended Pella Christian Schools prior to entering the U.S. Army where he served his country from June 1964 to June 1966.
He worked as a warehouse manager at Geetings, Inc. in Pella and also worked for Dykstra Transfer. He was an active member of the Eagles Lodge #276 in Oskaloosa. He was a past worthy president of that organization.
George loved the outdoors. He was known as "The River Bottom Drifter." He loved fishing, trapping, and hunting ducks, geese, and deer. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed NASCAR racing.
Those left to honor his memory are: his sister-in-law and special friend, Malinda De Wit of Oskaloosa; his brother and sister-in-law, Don and Barb De Wit of Tracy, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding his in death were his parents and one brother, Robert Paul De Wit.
George will be missed by his family and friends who will always cherish the memories he created in his lifetime.
