Beulah (Bloem) Bandstra

Beulah Bloem Bandstra, daughter of Peter E. and Angeline Van Zomeren Bloem, was born February 26, 1919 in Mahaska County. She passed away Monday, October 30, 2006 at the Pella Hospice Comfort House.

Beulah was united in marriage with Paul E. Bandstra on February 28, 1940 in Mahaska County. To this union six children were born: Bert, Alvin, Ernest, John, Carolyn, and Delores.

Beulah and Paul farmed for sixty-two years. Beulah enjoyed her role as a housewife and mother. In her free time she liked to crochet, sew, put together puzzles, work in her garden, bake, and care for her chickens. She also loved working on family genealogy.

She was baptized at an early age and later became a faithful member of the Leighton Christian Reformed Church. Beulah and her family sponsored the Nguyen Cong Dung family as they came from Vietnam. A special friendship developed between the two families.

Those left to cherish her memory are her five children and their spouses: Bert and Elaine Bandstra of Oskaloosa, Alvin Bandstra of Pella, Ernest and Susan Bandstra of Chico, California, John and Connie Bandstra of Oskaloosa, and Delores and John Ryken of New Sharon; fourteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; one brother, Melvin Bloem and his wife Sarah of New Sharon; one sister, Leona Veldhuizen and her husband Harold of Oskaloosa; her brother-in-law, John Drost of Oskaloosa; and her sister-in-law, Gladys Bloem of Oskaloosa.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Paul, on February 5, 1999; her daughter, Carolyn Ruth; granddaughter, Diane Joy Bandstra; great-grandson, Nathan Mai; brother, Elmer Bloem; sisters, Bernice Drost and Norma Bloem; and brother-in-law, Gary Van Arendonk.

Beulah will be missed by her family and her many friends.
