Verna De Vries, daughter of Wiggert and Elizabeth Bensink Rietveld, was born March 3, 1921, near Pella, Iowa, in the Bethel neighborhood. She passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2007, at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, Iowa, at the age of eighty-six years.

On June 26, 1941, Verna was united in marriage with Lewis De Vries at the home of her parents in Pella. They farmed near Peoria most of their married life. One daughter, Esther Mae, was born to them.

Lewis and Verna were active members of the First Christian Reformed Church in Pella. Verna enjoyed singing in the church choir for many years and with her husband she visited many who were sick and lonely.
Those left to cherish her memory are: one daughter and her husband: Esther and Marvin Van Donselaar of Sioux Center, Iowa; five grandchildren: Marla (Gary) De Jong of San Antonio, Texas, Brian (Carey) Van Donselaar of Sioux Center, Iowa, Sheryl (Brent) Vande Kamp of Farmington, Minnesota, Karen (Jason) Soodsma of Aurora, Colorado, Mark (Diane) Van Donselaar of Grayslake, Illinois; seven great-grandchildren: Brandon and Nathan De Jong, Garth, Jasmine, and Evan Van Donselaar, Logan and Bronwyn Vande Kamp; and one sister: Martha Den Besten of Surprise, Arizona.

Those preceding her in death were: her parents; her husband, Lewis, November 3, 1999; and one sister, Elizabeth Tysseling.
