William Lanser

William Lanser, son of William and Hendricka Van Wyk Lanser, Sr., was born on July 24, 1914 on a farm north of Sully, Iowa. He attended Sully Christian School and later graduated from the Sully High School.

On June 4, 1937 Bill was united in marriage with Wilma De Jong. To this union three children were born: Gary Vern, Lola Kay, and Robert Wayne. The family farmed on the Lanser family farm north of Sully for twenty-three years. In 1960 Bill and Wilma moved in to Sully where they operated the Sully Café for five years. He was also employed at Pella Rolscreen Company for three years after which he and Wilma started a Sears Catalog Merchandise Store at 608 Franklin Street in Pella. They continued in the store operation for the next ten years. Bill then worked for Dutch Town Vacuum for the next eighteen years in the sales and service department, retiring in 2000.

Bill and Wilma were members of the Christian Reformed Church in Sully, Iowa. In 1969 they transferred their membership to the Faith Christian Reformed Church in Pella where Bill was active in the Men's Society, serving in various capacities -- president, secretary, and treasurer. He also served his church as an Elder.

Wilma went to be with her Lord on March 7, 2001 at the age of eighty-four years. She will now be joined by Bill who passed away on December 30, 2008 at the age of ninety-four.

Those left to cherish his memory are: one daughter and her husband, two daughters-in-law, seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one sister-in-law, Millie (De Jong) Devlin of Fountain Hills, Arizona.

Preceding him in death: his parents; his wife, Wilma; two sons: Gary and Robert; one brother, Arie Lanser; and four sisters: Trina Ratcliff, Mattie Jansen, Wilma Van Rees, and Bertha Meppelink.
