Edward John Goemaat was born February 1, 1930, to John and Evelina (Sneller) Goemaat, in Marion County, Iowa. He passed away at Pella Regional Health Center on April 8, 2019.
Ed was a 1948 graduate of Pella High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951, attaining the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged in 1953.
On September 10, 1954, he was united in marriage to Viola Terpstra, at the Sully Christian Reformed Church. To this union they were blessed with three children: Dennis, Vicki and Brent.
Ed loved his family dearly and all of the wonderful times they spent together on weekend vacations, holidays, and just any time. He treasured his grandchildren. Ed got to hold all of his great grandbabies.
Ed enjoyed life to the fullest with Viola’s family as well as his own. He was always there and available for his family. Ed would be the first there for any project or situation. He always had sound advice even if it was through a simple “roses don’t bloom in snowbanks.”
He loved his community and Dutch heritage, often reading about past history and the people that make Pella great. He enjoyed woodworking and do-it-yourself projects.
Pella Corporation was very important to him. He was so dedicated to his work there. He was a hard worker and a good provider.
Ed was baptized as an infant and in 1954, he made profession of faith and became a member of Third Reformed Church. His church life and the church family were very important to him.
His entire family has a great love for the parks, nature, fishing and God’s beautiful creation.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Viola of 64 years, and their family:
