Edwin John Van Wyk was born April 11, 1949, to John and Pearl Jennie (Branderhorst) Van Wyk, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Ed attended school in Michigan, Colorado and Pella, and was a graduate of Pella Christian High School. After high school, Ed enlisted in the United States Army and completed two enlistments. He was always proud of his commitment to serve his country.
On June 16, 1979, he was united in marriage to Kristine Samuelson at the First Presbyterian Church in Des Moines. To this union they were blessed with three children: a daughter Sara and twin sons Andrew and Adam.
Throughout his career, Ed worked for Wilson Foods, Dutch Mill Supply, Vermeer Manufacturing, Central College, and the V.A.
Ed was a member of the United Methodist Church in Pella. He was involved in various committees on the Administrative Council, served as youth leader, and built the church float for Tulip Time. Ed loved cooking and cooked meals for the Methodist Church camp. His two favorite hobbies were woodworking in his shop and spending as much time as he could with his beloved grandchildren.

Ed is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents John and Pearl Van Wyk, his father-in-law Darwin Samuelson, his sister Mary Van Wyk and brother-in-law Dante Vitullo.
