Jan attended school at Valley, Pleasant View, Lincoln Elementary, Pella Middle School and was a 1967 graduate of Pella Public High School.
On November 18, 1969, she was united in marriage to John Keith Vander Wal, in Pella. They were blessed with two children: Brian John and Jennifer Lynn. They made their home on the family farm near Pella. Throughout her career, Jan worked for Rolscreen, picked apples and made pies for Pella Nursery, and Heritage Lace, all while working on the farm. She made confession of faith at Second Christian Reformed Church and later became a member of the First Christian Reformed Church, where she donated her time for the Mission and Evangelism Committee and the Happy Quilters. Jan loved spending time with her family on the farm, where she resided for 49 years, and never missed her grandkids’ events.
