Leonard Peter Pol

May 2, 1928 ~ December 29, 2017 (age 89)

Leonard Peter Pol passed away Friday, December 29,2017, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa, Iowa, at the age of 89.  He was born on May 2, 1928, to Peter Pol and Irene (Langstraat) Pol.

Leonard grew up in the Otley area where he attended school through the 8th grade. He helped his father on the farm until he joined the Army in April 1951. He was set to go to Korea, but was reassigned to Germany following an injury. Leonard farmed his entire life, and also worked construction and later at Vermeer.

Leonard married Betty Ann Vander Linden on April 15, 1953, at her parents’ home in Tracy. To this marriage they were blessed with five children: Sheryl, Larry, Joyce, Linda, and Mary. Leonard and Betty were faithful members of the Trinity Reformed Church in Pella.

Leonard enjoyed coyote and fox hunting and was an avid fisherman. He took trips to Canada and family vacations to the lakes of Minnesota. Leonard was an Auxiliary Policeman for many years and was also an American Legion member. In his later years, Leonard took joy in gardening, picking blackberries, and mushroom hunting.

Above all, Leonard was a loving family man who always made time for friends and family.
