Mary J. Vande Noord was born July 7, 1952, to Ralph and Freda (Hoeksema) Wisse, in Pella, Iowa. She passed away in Pella, on May 10, 2018, after a five month battle with cancer.
Mary was a 1970 graduate of Pella Community High School. She went on to earn her RN degree from Iowa Lutheran Nursing program in 1973. On January 4, 1974, Mary was united in marriage with Don Vande Noord in Pella. Together they moved to Kirksville, Missouri. While there, she enjoyed playing softball for Earl’s Girls. Later, they moved back to Pella where they welcomed three children: Tracy, Todd and Tim.
Mary was a nurse more than 35 years in geriatric/long-term care. The last several years she worked as a hospice nurse; she said this was the best job she ever had. Mary enjoyed time with family watching kids play sports, and more recently watching her grandkids’ sports and activities. She also enjoyed spending time at the lake, or just being outside, walking, and watching wildlife.
Mary was a member of First Baptist Church and was re-baptized and reaffirmed her faith in 1997.
