Mildred Van Maanen

Mildred Van Maanen Obituary

Mildred Irene Van Maanen was born February 24, 1925, the youngest of six children, of John D. and Nellie (Wanders) Van Donselaar in Leighton, Iowa. Mildred attended country school through eighth grade at Black Oak Center.

On February 27, 1946, she was united in marriage to John Edward Van Maanen on the farm near Leighton. To this union, they were blessed with one son, Gilbert John. She moved to town in 1977, lived on Broadway until she moved back to the farm in 2002, where she stayed until July 2019. She went to Accura Healthcare in Knoxville.  

Mildred was a member of the Second Christian Reformed Church  where she was active in the Ladies Aid. She was a farmer by heart her whole life.

She is also survived by her brother-in-law Harold and Marie Van Maanen and many nieces and nephews.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her siblings: Albert (Rena) Van Donselaar, Louie died in infancy, Lewis (Jennie) Van Donselaar, Gilbert “Bob” (Kay) Van Donselaar, and Carl (Hendrika) Van Donselaar. She was also preceded in death by parents-in-law Gilbert and Cora (Van Hal) Van Maanen, and her brothers and sisters-in-law: Tillie (Martin) Vos, Bertha (John) Slings, William “Bill” (Laurine) Van Maanen, and Luella Van Maanen.
