Wilhelmina Catherina Hol was born January 29, 1926, the sixth child of eight to Willem and Marie Hol. She was born near Tracy and attended the Bluff Creek School. She attended Pella Community High School for three years and graduated from Pella Christian High School. In 1940 her family moved to the Lunt farm east of Peoria. She worked at Van’s grocery store and Pella Implement.
On January 22, 1947, Minnie was united in marriage with Henry Van Wyngarden at her parent’s home on a beautiful day. Henry and Minnie moved up the hill to the home place when Henry’s parents moved to town and son Walt was only three weeks old. To this union five children were born: Walter Eugene, Larry Duane, Daryl Lee, Ronald Dale, and Sherry Marlene.
Minnie as she was always known, was a wonderful and supportive wife and loving mom and enjoyed volunteering for the Peoria Christian Grade School and served many offices on the Pella Christian High School Ladies Auxiliary. Minnie worked at Fair Haven for 24 years from 1981 to 2005. She was active with her church and school, and was a member of the Persis Society, Queen Esther Society, Peoria School Circle, and the Pella Christian High School Auxiliary. Minnie attended MANY sports events of her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Minnie and Erma ran the concession stand at the Lower Grove ball diamond for many years. Henry and Minnie traveled with siblings and spouses and friends to many places including Hawaii, Europe and a three week West Coast trip. After moving to the Pella Manor in 2008 she enjoyed the fellowship of many friends and loved playing dominoes six nights a week.
Minnie was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Henry, who died March 9, 2005. Those left to cherish her memory include her children, her grandchildren and great- grandchildren, her sister-in-law Erma Van Wyngarden of Pella, her brother-in-law Jerry and wife Betty Van Wyngarden of Holland, Michigan, her sister-in-law Alda and husband Nundi Dyal-Chand of Beaumont, California, and many precious nieces and nephews and their families.
