IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alan
Stursma
February 28, 1955 – October 13, 2025
Alan Eugene Stursma was born on February 28, 1955 to William and Hermina (Van Kooten) Stursma in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was baptized at Second Christian Reformed Church in Pella.
Alan attended Pella Community High School where he wrestled and played football. His love of football continued throughout his life. He was a loyal Minnesota Vikings fan.
On February 28, 1975 he married his love, Kathy Van Hemert at the First Baptist Church in Pella. Later that year their daughter Ami Jo was born and their son Chad Alan was born in 1978.
Alan worked at Pella Corporation and was an over the road truck driver for many years at Boomsma Eggs, Wehrle Trucking Inc., Peoria Truck Lines, Barr-Nunn Transportation, and Geetings, Inc. He drove to every one of the lower contiguous states except for the state of Washington. His children enjoyed going along on his trucking adventures during the summer. Later he worked for G.I. Warehouse Corp. in Knoxville until his retirement.
Alan enjoyed woodworking and he and Kathy enjoyed antiquing together. He refinished several beautiful pieces of furniture for their home. He also enjoyed gardening, and he and Kathy always kept a huge garden with produce to share with family and friends.
Alan deeply loved his family. He adored his grandchildren and loved spending time with each of them. He was a good friend and would help anyone. He had an amazing laugh and an ornery twinkle in his eye. He laughed a lot and made others laugh too.
Alan passed away suddenly at his home on October 13, 2025. Those left to cherish Alan's memory are his wife of over 50 years, Kathy and their family:
