Albert Martin Pleima was born on August 29, 1922, to Martin and Regina De Jong Pleima at the family farm in the Lower Grove area near Pella. He passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House at the age of ninety.

Albert received his early education at the Rider School in Jasper County. He met his future wife, Lenora Mae Blom, at the Second Christian Reformed Church in Pella. They were married February 19, 1948, at the home of Lenora's parents, Antonio and Josie Ver Ploeg Blom. To this union five children were born: Linda Jean, Duane Allen, Randal Lee, Marcia Joan, and Arvin Martin.

Albert and Lenora farmed for thirty-one years, first on a farm in the Pella area and later south of Leighton. Albert was also employed at Brummel Brothers Feed for ten years, Veenstra Construction in Tracy for two years, Harvey Van Kooten for two years, Pleima Trenching, Mahaska Rural Water for twenty years, janitor of Leighton Christian Reformed Church for twenty-five years, and served two terms as Mayor of Leighton.

Albert was a member of Leighton Christian Reformed Church where he served as deacon, elder, and janitor prior to becoming a member of Second Christian Reformed Church in Pella where he faithfully worshipped.

Those left to cherish his memory are: his wife, Lenora; four children; thirteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; his brother, Nelson Pleima; two sisters: Alice Zylstra and Effie Groenendyk.

Albert was preceded in death by his son, Duane, on August 31, 1974; two grandchildren: Brian Roose and Melinda Roose; his parents, Martin and Regina Pleima; and his brother, Dick Pleima.

He will always be remembered for his great sense of humor, for being a friend of everyone, for showing integrity and faith, for caring for others, and for being a generous and loving man.
