Antonia Ida Ryken was born July 7, 1915, to Antonie and Joryntje (Van Vrenen) Bos in Harvey, Iowa. She passed away on January 5, 2016, at Pella Comfort House, surrounded by her family.
Toby was second in her class at Tracy Consolidated School and attended through the eighth grade. She worked for the Pella Christian High School for 20 years and retired in 1995. She also worked at the Pella Public Library for 10 years, and Pella Corp for three years. She and her husband farmed for 25 years in the Pella area.
Toby married Martin Ryken on March 6, 1936, in the parsonage of the Protestant Reformed Church in Oskaloosa. To this union they were blessed with two daughters Joyce and Ardith.
Toby was a member of Faith Christian Reformed Church and the Ladies Aid. She was particularly fond of an article she wrote entitled "My Brother's Keeper." She also enjoyed quilting and gardening. She enjoyed speding time with her family.
Those left to cherish her memory are daughter Joyce (Arie Jr.) Vink, of Pella, and their children Arlyn (Louise) Vink, Mark (Janet) Vink, Joann De Haan, Loraine Van Veldhuizen (husband Greg deceased) Byron (Ava) Vink, and Carolyn (Blane) Bogaard; daughter Ardith (Christopher) Brunt of Fargo, North Dakota, and their children Sheryl (Bryan) Hoy, Corey (Kirra) Westra; nineteen great grandchildren and seventeen great-great grandchildren.
Toby is preceded in death by her husband Martin, sister Eva and Frank Ryken, brother Abe and Elizabeth Bos, grandson-in-law Greg Van Veldhuizen, and a great-great granddaughter Evyn Gentry.
