Arvena Bernice Schuring was born on July 2, 1929, to Clarence H. G. and Bernice A. (Dabb) Rietveld on a farm near Swan, Iowa. She passed away Thursday, May 19, 2011, at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House.

Arvena attended country school near Pleasantville and the Iola Country School. On June 26, 1947, Arvena was united in marriage with Jacob Louis Schuring in Knoxville, Iowa. They were blessed with five children: Stanley, Michael, Sandra, Paul, and Janine.

Arvena enjoyed being a mother and homemaker and especially liked baking chocolate chip cookies for her family. She also enjoyed flowers, antique dishes, her cat Thomas, and the Gaither Family music. Her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren. After her children were grown, Arvena worked for twelve years as a nurses aid at the Pella Regional Health Center Long Term Care facility. Arvena was a long time member of Trinity Reformed Church in Pella, making her confession of faith on Easter Sunday, 1957.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of sixty-three years, Jacob, of Pella, four children and their spouses, fourteen grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren, as listed below.

Arvena is also survived by her brother, Lloyd and Linda Rietveld, and by her sisters Dena White and Arlene Schakel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, by her daughter, Sandra in 2008, and by her brother, Fred.

Arvena will be missed by her family and friends, but her memory lives on.
