Obituary

Audrey Mae (Slager) Miller was born on May 30, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois to Bert and Helene Slager. She graduated from Fenger High School in 1956. As a young woman she worked downtown Chicago as a secretary at Standard Oil.  On February 13, 1960 she married Roger W. Miller. They were blessed with four children: Roger, Linda, Becky, and Debbie.

After residing in Crete, Illinois for 12 years, the Miller family moved to Pella, Iowa in 1974.  Audrey was a stay-at-home-mom until she began working at the Central College Bookstore in 1979. She continued working there until 1993. As a family they enjoyed countless camping trips around the United States. As a couple Audrey and Roger took motorcycle trips, enjoyed square dancing and playing cards with friends. For their 25th Anniversary they rented a car and toured Europe for three weeks.

After her husband Roger's passing in 1995, Audrey continued to travel. She took trips to Africa, Spain, France, and India with her children and visited China, Chile, and Turkey with Friendship Force.  She also enjoyed going on trips with her friends.

Audrey was a faithful follower of Jesus and an active member at Third Church. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, was a Calvinette leader, a den mother, and had a puppet ministry. She led ladies' Bible studies and volunteered with Third's visitation ministry. She loved visiting various care facilities and community groups to talk about her travels. For years she volunteered at the Work of Our Hands store.

Audrey was a wonderful hostess and always welcomed anyone into her home. She was a fun, caring, and generous mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She prayed fervently for her family and friends and left a legacy of faith in the Lord Jesus.

Audrey was preceded in death by her brother Eugene, parents, Bert and Helene, grandson Caleb Braafhart, husband Roger, and son-in-law Dennis Laverman.

She is survived by her four children, thirteen grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren and sister Carol.
