Barbara Jo Kroes was born June 23, 1941, to Robert Ellis and Adrena (De Jong) Mitchell, in Iowa City, Iowa.

Barbara attended country school south of Pella, and was a 1960 graduate of Pella Community High School. She worked as a waitress, police dispatcher and was a mother and housewife.

On October 6, 1960, she was united in marriage to Evert J. Kroes in Pella.  They have three children: Carrie, Joseph and John.

Barbara is survived by her husband Evert, her daughter Carrie  (Ryan) Genest of Pleasant Hill, her sons Joseph Kroes of Pella, and John (Sarah) Kroes of Pella; her grandchildren: Mitchell Rykhoek, Carissa (Ben) Marcov, Tyler (Molly) Rykhoek, Nicole McKee, Drew Waddell, Jackson Kroes, Benjamin Kroes and her great grandchildren: Natasha Marcov, Victor Marcov, Aria Rykhoek, Ayla Rykhoek, Valissa McKee and River Messamaker. She is also survived by her siblings: Tom (Pat) Mitchell of Otley, Thelma Mitchell of Pella and Michael Mitchell of St. Mary, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Adrena Mitchell.
