Bernice Brush, age 94, passed away on September 16, at the Comfort House in Pella. Bernice, daughter of Gerrit and Cornelia (Bos) Schut, was born September 17, 1925, at the family farm home in Jasper County, Iowa. She was raised and educated in the Monroe school district.

On January 14, 1947, she was united in marriage to Henry Vander Wiel. To this union their son Melvin was born. They farmed near Sully and Leighton. In November 1966, Henry passed away at age 43 years. In June 1975 she married Rex Brush and moved to Le Grand, Iowa. She was a member of Le Grand Friends Church, and was their church organist for 37 years. Rex passed away October 1987, and in July 2012, she moved to Pella.

Bernice is survived by her son Melvin (Nancy) Vander Wiel of Pella, two grandsons: Tracy Vander Wiel and Laurie Miller of New Sharon, and Eric (Lindsey) Vander Wiel of Grinnell; four great grandchildren: Jaylin, Colton, Banx and Paxton Vander Wiel, one step-daughter Saundra (Darrel) Devick of Panora, eight step-grandchildren and great grandchildren, sister-in-law Joan Schut and two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law.

Bernice was preceded in death by her two husbands, her parents, her parents-in-law, her brother Gilbert Schut, her step son Dorman Brush, a nephew, and several sisters and brothers-in-law.
