Carl Mark De Jong was born October 7, 1947, to Anthony and Josephine (Van Heukelom) De Jong in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He passed away unexpectedly December 13, 2016, at his farm near Chariton, Iowa.
Carl was a 1965 graduate of Pella Community High School and AIB Business College. He was a member of the Iowa National Guard from 1967 to 1971. Carl was also a member of the Pella JayCee's.
Carl farmed his entire life. He lived on his parent's farm north of Leighton where he farmed with his father Tony De Jong until 1991. He moved to Chariton, Iowa, where he had a cow and calf operation. Carl was a member of Iowa Cattlemen's Association for over 20 years. He was also a member, board member, and past president of Lucas County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Each year Carl went fishing in Canada with his friends. He also went deer hunting every year on his farm with his friends. Carl went to Alaska with his family to fish for the "big ones."
Carl is survived by his brother Ralph and his wife Carolyn De Jong of Columbus, Ohio, and his sister Marla and her husband Michael Keumpel of Monroe, Washington; nieces and nephews: Rick and Jenny De Jong and their children Eliza, Annika, Caleb and Audrey; Michelle and Jim Kelly and their children Kieran and Morgan; Connie and Edum De Jong; Suzanne and Bryan Toney and their children Wyatt and Mason; Jeremy Keumpel, Carissa and Travis Klein and their children Stevie and Juni.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents Anthony and Josephine De Jong.
