Don Lee Slagter was born on September 7, 1933, to John and Anna (Louwsma) Slagter in rural Mahaska County, Iowa. He passed away November 10, 2025, in Pella, Iowa.

On June 9, 1954, he was united in marriage to Luetta Clark in Oskaloosa, Iowa. To this union they were blessed with two daughters: Donna Lou on July 14, 1955, and Carol Ann on October 5, 1963.

Don loved his job at Vermeer Manufacturing and then as a salesman for Vermeer Iowa. Following retirement, he worked for Schiebout Tire and drove cars for Ulrich Motor. Don had a strong work ethic and was always on time. He was also a people-person and enjoyed talking to anyone and everyone. Don loved eating out, especially at Subway. He loved spending time outdoors, camping, caring for his flowers and garden, and going for walks.

Don was a long-time member of Trinity Church where he served as elder, deacon and YF leader.

Don was preceded in death by his wife Luetta Slagter, his parents John and Anna Slagter and  his siblings: Tena and Ted De Haan, Jacob and Cena Slagter, Nellie and Tim Meinders, Wilford and Josephine Slagter, George and Laura Slagter, Tressa and Carl Van Dusseldorp, Margaret and Charles Street, Johnny and Nellie Slagter, Roy and Effie Sopher, Henry and JoAnn Slagter, Melvin and Shirley Slagter, and Marion and June Slagter, and siblings-in-law: Pete and Della Mae Van Maanen and Forrest and Verna Systma.
