Doris Jean Boer was born on July 9, 1950, to Richard and Annette (Olthoff) Kooy in Cicero, Illinois. She entered into glory on July 4, 2019, in Pella, Iowa, at age 68, after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Dori and her husband, Paul, met at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and were married on May 22, 1971, at Park Lane Christian Reformed Church in Evergreen Park, Illinois. They were blessed with three children: Ken, Tim, and Katie. Paul and Dori raised their children in South Holland, Illinois, and moved to Pella in 2012. Dori was active as a homemaker, and her servant's heart and joyful, quiet spirit were evident to all who knew her.

Dori was an educator for 33 years, serving students in grades K-8. She delighted in teaching children to read, and was skilled in helping students who had learning challenges. She also enjoyed decorating cakes, cross-stitching, and collaborating with Paul on scroll-saw projects. When her children were young she enjoyed many years of serving as a Coffee Break leader at 1st CRC in South Holland, and she enjoyed attending Calvary's Coffee Break after her diagnosis. She loved music, especially hymns, old and new, and she always had a song on her heart or on her lips. Her greatest joy was to see her children and grandchildren following the Lord. Dori lived her life trusting in God's sovereignty as the blessed controller of all things.

Dori is survived by her husband, Paul, their three children, and their families: Ken and Rachael Boer of Memphis, TN and their children Carter, Amelia, Luke, and Eliza; Tim and Sarah Boer of Dyer, IN and their children James, Levi, Selah, Hannah, and Tirzah; Joe and Katie Hoksbergen of Pella, IA and their children Leah, Jenna, Micah, and Elijah. She is also survived by her brother Rich (Karen) Kooy and her sister Jennie (Tim) Zoeterman. Dori was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Annette Kooy, and her sister, Jo Ann Kreps.
