IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy (Van
Veen) Rooda
January 10, 1919 – January 30, 2008
Dorothy I. (Van Veen) Rooda, the daughter of Gerrit and Gretchen Klien Kaldenburg, was born on January 10, 1919 in Monroe, Iowa. She was the youngest of four children.
Dorothy graduated from the Monroe High School and attended Central College. She was united in marriage with Frank Van Veen on February 4, 1938. To this union, three children were born: Frances, Barbara, and Charles. The family spent countless hours making peanut brittle together. Frank passed away on June 30, 1981. Dorothy married Henry Rooda on November 28, 1991. Henry passed away on March 7, 1998.
Dorothy worked at the Pella Rolscreen offices for 37 years. She was a member of the Covenant Reformed Church in Pella. Dorothy enjoyed sewing, handwork, many crafts, playing cards, and traveling. She also spent much time knitting and doing needlepoint with her daughter for the Country Life Christmas Bazaar. In her retirement, Dorothy volunteered at the Windmill Information Booth and enjoyed working at the Chocolate Store. One of her best ideas was the Pella Trio; a chocolate candy bag souvenir.
Dorothy will be missed by her daughter Barbara McKee of Oskaloosa; her son Chuck Van Veen and his wife Jill of Pella, 19 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and countless other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank in 1981, her husband Henry in 1998, her daughter Frances Vander Linden in 1995, her brothers Willard and Gerard, and sisters Ethel Pitts and Cornelia Pitts.
