Duane Carlisle Pothoven was born on August 21, 1931, to Henry and Dorothy (Rus) Pothoven in Pella, Iowa. He passed away on Monday, May 12, 2014, at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House at the age of eighty-two.

Duane received his education at the Pella Schools. At the age of sixteen he began working for the Rural Electric Cooperative and remained in that position for thirty years. For the next fourteen years he worked for the City of Pella as an electrician. Duane also served his country in the Army from 1952 to 1954.

On June 28, 1951, Duane was united in marriage with Mary Armstrong at the Galilee Baptist Church parsonage in Des Moines, Iowa. They were blessed with three children: Deb, Tammy, and Scott.

Duane enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, watching nature, and feeding the squirrels. He also liked motorcycling and woodworking.

Those left to cherish his memory are: his wife Mary of Pella; his three children: Deb Linn of Pella, Tammy (Loren) Bonnema of Pella, and Scott (Sherri) Pothoven of Pella; grandchildren: Angie (Mike) Remer, Heather Linn, Tyler Linn, Breanne (Steven) Patel, Sarah (Scott) Treft, Ross Way (fiancAC. Becky Vanden Berg), Robb (Margaret) Way, Justin (Michelle) Pothoven, and Kayla Pothoven; eight great-grandchildren; his brother, Robert (Ruth) Pothoven of Hollister, Missouri; his sister, Judith Cunningham of Camdenton, Missouri; and one niece and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harlan Pothoven.
