Edith Kuiper was born on January 23, 1914, to Arie J. and Josie Beyer De Vries near Otley, Iowa. She went to her heavenly home Wednesday, December 10, 2014, at the Oskaloosa Care Center at the age of 100. She received her early education at a country school near her home and completed the eighth grade.
On February 19, 1937, Edith was united in marriage with Dick Kuiper. They were blessed with two sons: Kenneth and Anthony. Edith enjoyed being a housewife and caring for her family.
Edith was a member of the Otley Reformed Church, where she was a member of the Dorcas Society and Banner Bearers. She enjoyed baking, especially lemon and sour crème raisin pies, liked to go mushroom hunting, enjoyed shopping in Des Moines and eating at Bishops for lunch. For a time she worked at the Strawtown Inn in Pella.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons and their wives: Kenneth and Alberdina Kuiper of Oskaloosa and Anthony and Mary Kuiper of Knoxville; her grandchildren: Steve (Melinda) Kuiper, Deanne (Kuiper) and Leo Herbers, Gail Kuiper, Kathy (Kuiper) and Lyle Voss, and John Kuiper; great-grandchildren: Matthew, Renee, Nathan, and Jeffrey Herbers, Brandon and Kevin Kuiper; three step-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law: Edith De Vries and Gertrude De Vries both of Pella.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Dick, in 1993, six brothers, and two sisters.
