Elva June Vos was born August 12, 1935, to Cornie and Henrietta (Swank) Vos, at their home north of Sully.
Elva attended various country schools, Sully Christian Grade School. And the American School of Correspondence, while helping on the farm. She worked at Sully Co-op Creamery and at Pine Rest Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Elva also took Practical Nurses Training at St. Luke's Methodist Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Following that, she worked one year at Mercy Hospital in Oskaloosa, Iowa, and four years at Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan, while attending Reformed Bible Institute (now Kuyper College). She also worked for the Christian Reformed Board of Home Mission with her twin sister in Brigham City, Utah. She obtained her Bachelors Degree in Nursing from University of Utah and her Masters Degree in Health Services Management from Leslie College of Cambridge, Massachusetts. From there, she moved to Gallup, New Mexico, where she worked as a Public Health Nurse under the Government Indian Health Service, and South Dakota, Virginia, Nebraska, and Wyoming where she continued to work as a PHN. Elva retired from nursing in 1997 and traveled with her twin sister Erma before settling in Pella in 2006. She always enjoyed working with different ethnic groups and cultures.
Elva was a member of Calvary Christian Reformed Church, Mission Circle, and Thursday Night Alive.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sister-in-law: Mavis Vos, eleven nieces and nephews and their families, and a host of relatives and friends.
Elva was preceded in death by her twin sister Erma, parents Cornie and Henrietta Vos, brothers: Wilbur (Cornelia) Vos, Melvin (Lorraine) Vos and Ivan Vos.
