Obituary

Engelyn (Angeline or Angie) Van Steenis was born on February 9, 1916, near Albia, Iowa. She was the sixth of nine children born to John and Elizabeth (Van Weelden) Van Ringelestein. The family later moved near Oskaloosa, where she received her grade school education. She worked as a housekeeper and for Gould's Market as a young girl.

On October 20, 1938, Angie was united in marriage with Clarence W. Van Steenis at the Third Reformed Church in Pella, Iowa.

They lived in the Flagler area until 1946, when they moved to a farm near Fremont for one year and then returned to the Flagler area.

In 1956 they moved to a farm north of Pella. They sold the farm which became the site of the the Christian Opportunity Center and Park View housing development. Clarence continued to farm ground near Otley, Monroe, and Knoxville until 2008. In 2000 Angie and Clarence moved to a duplex at 1000 West 4th Street in Pella. On November 13, 2008, she and Clarence became residents of the Pella Regional Health Center-Long Term Care. Clarence passed away on January 3, 2010.

Angie was a member of the Third Reformed Church for over 50 years and then became a charter member of the Heartland Reformed Church. Both she and Clarence were active in the life of both congregations.

Angie and Clarence took several bus tours visiting many parts of the United States and Canada and spent three weeks in Holland visiting relatives. She returned two more times to visit family. She was very proud of her Dutch heritage and that she could speak and write the Dutch language.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; her parents; her brothers and sisters: Wm. (Jannetta) Ringelestein, Delia (Peter) Fynaardt, Abraham (Rae) Van Ringelestein, Jennie (Eldert) Fynaardt, Jeannetta (Joe) Kaldenberg, Annie (Gerald) De Kock, and Elizabeth, a sister who died in infancy.

Angie is survived by her four children and their spouses; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one brother and his wife, Arie and Carolyn Ringelestein; and many nieces and nephews.
