Obituary

Erma De Zwarte Steenhoek was born April 5, 1925, to James and Nettie (Verros) De Zwarte, on a farm south of Pella.

Erma attended Eureka Country School, through eighth grade. She worked for a few years at Pella Rolscreen before she married Gilford Steenhoek in Pella, on  June 12, 1945. They made their first home together on a farm northeast of Pella. They were blessed with three children: Gary, Carol, and David. They farmed many years, and moved to Pella in 1976.

After moving to town, she was custodian of Pella National Bank and later the Third Reformed Church for 18 years. Erma and Gilford were members of Third Reformed Church where she taught Sunday School, and was involved in many activities.

Gilford passed away in October of 1988, after 43 years of marriage. Erma was also preceded in death by her  parents James and Nettie De Zwarte, parents-in-law Simon and Winnie Steenhoek, sister Dorothy (Apollas) Terlouw, brothers Marvin (AnnaBelle) De Zwarte, Raymond (Mildred) De Zwarte, Jaybe (Ada) Steenhoek, Simon Jr. Steenhoek, two infant sisters, and great, great grandson Ryker Boender.
