Obituary

Erma Lee Umble was born May 9, 1930, to Orley and Clara (Kutcher) Meritt, in Hebron, Nebraska. As a child, her family moved around a lot. She attended school in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

On September 18, 1946, she was united in marriage to Harold Umble in Council Bluffs, Iowa. To this union they were blessed with five children: Greg, Carol, Tom, Jim, and Chery.

Erma worked as a waitress at the Maple Buffet in Knoxville and later she worked for Pella Corp. Erma enjoyed spending time outdoors, boating, camping, fishing, and gardening. She also enjoyed all kinds of crafts, needlework, and word search. Erma loved caring for her family and cooking for them.

She was a long-time member of the Otley Church.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Tom Umble of Otley, Jim and Karen Umble of Harvey, Chery and Drew Schmidt of Monroe, daughter-in-law Linda Umble of Pella, five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Erma was preceded in death by her husband Harold Umble in 1995, her son Greg Umble in 2016, her daughter Carol Umble in 2022, and her siblings: Evelyn, Hazel, Bessie, Junior, Connie, Chuck and Rose.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Otley Church or the Wounded Warrior Project.
