Etta Joyce Huisman was born March 26, 1938, to Arie and Alice (Booy) Huisman, in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Joyce was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She attended the University of Minnesota and Central College, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree. She received her Master's degree from the University of Iowa, and her Doctorate from the University of Tulsa. Joyce was a professor at Dordt College and retired from the Grand View University.

Joyce enjoyed running, hiking, reading, and walking with her dogs. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Those left to cherish her memory are her siblings: Eleanor Rietveld of Pella, Norman (Janell) Huisman of Grinnell; Carol (Arlo) Beyer of New Sharon and Ron (Donna) Huisman of Otley; sister-in-law Carol Huisman of Waukee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Arie and Alice Huisman, her sister Nellie  Van Donge, her brother Duane Huisman, and brothers-in-law Elmer Rietveld and Herman Van Donge.
