Frank Hettinga, the son of Jochem and Willemien Smidt Hettinga, was born on August 24, 1927, in the Netherlands. At the age of twenty-one, Frank immigrated to the United States. He received his education in the Netherlands.
On Decembeer 4, 1949, Frank was united in marriage with Anna Vink in Pella, Iowa. They were blessed with four children: Marilyn, Clarence, Marvin, and Gene.
Previous residences of Frank and Anna were: Denver, Colorado, Tucson, Arizona, and Loveland, Colorado. They moved back to Pella in 1989. He was currently a member of the Covenant Reformed Church in Pella. He participated in church mission trips to the Dominican Republic. Frank enjoyed working; for over forty years he was a machinist in the tool and die business. He also loved to ride his motorcycle and enjoyed the challenge of making prototype parts. He especially loved his grandchildren and was known as a steady, strong man.
Frank went to his heavenly home at the age of eighty-seven on Friday, December 19, 2014, at his residence in Pella. Those who honor his memory are: his children, Marilyn Hines of Richardson, Texas, Clarence and Marlene Hettinga of Pella, Iowa, Marvin and Darla Hettinga of Alton, Iowa, and Gene and Judy Hettinga of Loveland, Colorado; ten grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; his twin brother and his wife, Siebolt and Jeanine Hettinga of Adel, Iowa, and brother John Hettinga of Modesto, California; his sister and her husband, Elizabeth "Betty" and Dick Van Der Woude of the Netherlands; and brother-in-law and his wife, Arie and Joyce Vink of Pella.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 2005, one great-grandson, and two brothers, Johannes in 1960 and Hillenius in 2011.
