Fred Donald Anthony Jr., was born on May 10, 1940, to Fred and Darlene (Powell) Anthony in Des Moines, Iowa. He passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Des Moines Methodist Hospital from complications of a stroke.
Fred graduated from Lincoln High School in 1958. He then attended Northwest Missouri State University, graduating in 1964 with a B.S. degree in History. He then earned his Masters of Science in Education degree from Drake University in 1970.
Fred was united in marriage with Myrna Niklasen on August 2, 1964, in Kimballton, Iowa. They were blessed with three children: Toni, Mark, and Heather.
Fred was employed by the Guthrie Center Public Schools from 1965-1969. He finished his teaching career with the Pella Community Schools from 1969 until his retirement in 2002. He coached track from 1965-2005 and football from 1965-1990. His passions were his family, the Oklahoma Sooners, the St. Louis Cardinals, the Northwest Bearcats, history, and the military. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Oskaloosa, Iowa, since 1969.
Those left to cherish his memory are: his wife, Myrna of Pella; his three children: Toni Anthony Larson of Bendena, Kansas, Mark (Angie) Anthony of Pella, and Heather (Craig) De Jong of Pella; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; his sister, Eloise Terai of Ankeny, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, an uncle, and aunts.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, his sister-in-law Doris Schuring, his brothers-in-law Richard Woods and Gerald Terai; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
