Freda Goodyk was born on January 14, 1920, at the family farm home in Lynn Grove Township near Lynnville, Iowa. She was the fourth of six children born to Cornelius (Neal) and Mayme (Vande Krol) Vander Wilt. Freda passed away at the Knoxville Hospital & Clinics on Thursday, July 18, 2013, at the age of ninety-three.

Freda received her early education in Lynnville area country schools where she completed the eighth grade. On September 4, 1940, she was united in marriage with Wiebe Goodyk in Sully. They were blessed with five children: Marvin, Beverly, Melvin, Verlin, and Keith. The family farmed in the Sully, New Sharon, and Lynnville areas.

When Wiebe passed away in 1971, Freda continued to live in Lynnville until 1976, when she moved to Pella to live with her son, Keith, for a few year. She then lived in her home on Elm Street before spending the last years of her life as a resident of the Griffin Nursing Center in Knoxville.

Freda loved visiting family and friends. She lived out her faith and evangelism every day as she interacted with people. She was a member of God's church, the body of believers, and she attended the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella. She had a large collection of dolls, which she enjoyed sharing with lots of girls, and a collection of cups and saucers.

Those left to cherish her memory are her five children and their spouses: Marvin and Myrna, Bev and Cass, Melvin and Billie, Verlin and Lesley, and Keith and his friend, Melinda Vander Ecken; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; her brother, Lester Vander Wilt of Pella; and the following in-laws: Ruth Vander Wilt of Kansas, Esther Goodyk of Pella, Joel and Joan Spykerman of Michigan, and Louise Goodyk of Pella.

Freda was preceded in death by the following: her parents; her husband in 1971; her siblings Orville Vander Wilt, Wildo (Agnes) Vander Wilt, Carroll (Artie) Vander Wilt, Vera (Clarence) Brand;and her sister-in-law Deyonna Vander Wilt.
