Obituary

Gertrude Blommers Dykstra was born May 17, 1919, to Benjamin Thomas and Tillie De Wit Blommers near Pella, Iowa. She received her early education at the Wheat Grow and Flint Ridge Country Schools near her home.

On June 7, 1941, Gertrude was united in marriage with Paul E. Dykstra, son of Peter J. and Zwannetta Vischer Dykstra, in Kirksville, Missouri. Gertrude and Paul were blessed with four children: Kenneth, Evelyn, Eileen, and Elaine.

Gertrude made profession of faith at the First Christian Reformed Church in Pella of which she was a member most of her life. She later became a member of the Covenant Reformed Church in Pella. She was active in Bible Studies and Ladies Aid.

She was employed at the Rolscreen Company, now known as Pella Corporation, for over fourteen years. She was also employed at Hilltop South for six years.

Gertrude enjoyed being a mother and housewife. She adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and was blessed when they came to visit. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially the farm; she also enjoyed embroidery and baking goodies for her family.

Those left to cherish her memory are her three daughters and their families; sisters-in-law: Ruth Blommers, Viola Vander Linden, and Jeanette Dykstra; brother-in-law, Glen Erickson; and her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her parents-in-law; her husband, Paul, in 1997; son Kenneth, in 2008; and her brothers: Dave, Marvin, and Gysbert Blommers.
