Gertrude Olivier was born on April 12, 1924, in Monroe County, Iowa, to Jacob and Lena (Blommers) Olivier. She was welcomed into her family by her older brother, Matthew. Her family lived in the Eddyville/Oskaloosa/Leighton area while Gertrude was growing up. She attended the Madison Center County School and graduated from Oskaloosa High School. Later on, the family moved to Pella.
Gertrude was employed at the Pella Overall Factory and then at Pella Corporation, where she retired after twenty-five years of service. She loved travelling, knitting, and spending time with her family. Gertrude made profession of her faith and was a long-time member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Pella. She was currently a member of the Covenant Reformed Church in Pella.
Gertrude passed away on September 18, 2013, at the Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa, Iowa, where she had been a resident.
Gertrude is survived by her two nephews and their wives, Don and Mary Ann Olivier of Pella, and Alvin and Mary Ann Olivier of Knoxville. She also leaves many great nieces and nephews and other extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Matthew, her nephew Larry Olivier, and her niece Marlene Olsthoorn.
