Obituary

Gilbert Van Wyk was born February 9, 1933, to Henry G. and Clara (Ver Steegt) Van Wyk, in the family farmhouse south of Lynnville, where  he lived  until retirement, except for the two years he served in the Army.

Gilbert met Marlene Dykstra before he entered the reserves in 1953, then dated in 1955 after he returned from Korea. On February 15, 1957, he was united in marriage to Marlene at the Third Reformed Church in Pella. To this union they were blessed with two children: Denise Kay and Loran Eugene. Gilbert farmed the land previously owned by his parents near Lynnville. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was a member of the First Church in Sully.

He is also survived by his brother Gary (Deen) Van Wyk, and sister Margaret Ann Coop, sisters-in-law: Vi Van Wyk, and Evelyn (Robert) Van Dyke, and many nieces and nephews.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his wife Marlene, parents Henry and Clara Van Wyk, parents-in-law Abram and Gertrude Dykstra, brother Orville Van Wyk, sister Mildred Bogaards, brother-in-law Newton Coop, and four nieces and nephews.
