IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harold
Beyer
July 1, 1933 – April 5, 2025
Harold Leroy Beyer was born July 1, 1933, to Edward and Sarah (Kinart) Beyer, in rural Jasper County. He passed away at age 91, at The Cottages of Pella.
Harold graduated from Monroe High School in 1951. On August 29, 1953, he was united in marriage to Betty M. Phifer at the First Baptist Church in Monroe. Harold served in the Army and was stationed at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma from 1955 to 1957. After his honorable discharge, the family returned back to Monroe where they farmed for over 50 years south of town. He continued to work at Otley Monroe Co-Op for several years. Harold enjoyed his woodworking shop and loved creating many projects for family and friends. While living in Monroe, his wife of 54 years passed away.
On June 4, 2010, he was united in marriage to Wilma Schimmel. They continued to live in Monroe and later moved to Pella for their remaining years together. Harold and Wilma had almost 15 years of marriage. They enjoyed playing cards with three other couples that Harold had played with for about 15 years before this marriage. They also enjoyed taking several bus trips to New York City, the Rose Bowl Parade, Yellowstone, Alaska, and Hawaii. They occasionally went to Florida for a couple months in the winter. Together they also enjoyed going out to eat and shopping in Des Moines. One of their favorite places was Culvers for lunch and ice cream after church. They also enjoyed going to the great grandkids birthday parties.
Harold was preceded in death by his first wife Betty Beyer, parents Ed and Sarah Beyer, brother Harvey Beyer, sister and brother-in-law Viola and Chuck Burmeister, two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
