Obituary

Harold Edwin Hoksbergen was born on March 31, 1929, to Ray and Johanna (Van Haaften) Hoksbergen, at the family's farm northeast of Leighton, Iowa. He left to join the Lord on March 23, 2016, at Jefferson Place in Pella.

Harold could only attend one year at Pella Christian High School as he had to help run the family farm after his father was stricken. In 1947 he met Clazina De Jong and courted her for three years before their marriage on November 2, 1950 in Sully. Harold was drafted into the Army in 1951, and after training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, served in Korea. He attained the rank of Sergeant and after an honorable discharge in 1953, was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

Harold was a very successful farmer in the Lynnville/Taintor area and provided for Clazina and their growing family. From their union five children were born: Ron, Charlene, Carroll, Cindy, and Donna. Harold continued farming full-time until 1980. He also worked as a Conklin salesman and as a custodian at both Central College and Heritage Lace. In his free time, Harold enjoyed bicycling on the Volksweg bike trails around Lake Red Rock, bowling, gardening, and working in his yard. Harold and Clazina also enjoyed traveling and visiting their family and grandchildren wherever they were living.

Harold grew up in the Peoria CRC. After moving his family to Pella in 1970, so that their children could be closer to Pella Christian High, the couple attended Faith Christian Reformed Church in Pella. Harold was very active in his church, attending and teaching Sunday school, and serving as an elder and deacon.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Clazina and his family as follows:
