IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harold
Sikma
November 15, 1924 – May 24, 2024
Harold Sikma was born on a farm near Ocheyedan, Iowa, on November 15, 1924, to Harry and Jeannette Sikma. He passed away May 24, 2024, in Pella, Iowa.
Harold attended country school through the 8th grade. He and his brothers worked hard to help his father pay off the family farm, and though he ended up in construction, he always had a heart for agriculture.
Harold served in the US Navy near the end of World War II, and had great respect for all others who served their country in the military. On May 16, 1950, Harold married Marjorie Parks in Ocheyedan. Their union was blessed with five children, which eventually budded into an extensive set of branches on the family tree.
After working as a farm hand and creamery truck driver, Harold began his primary vocation in construction. Over the next decades he helped build many homes, but also churches, school gyms, and more. He was an expert in masonry, but he particularly displayed his artistic talents in stonework, and built many beautiful fireplaces. Years later he got to see the varied geographic features in the American Southwest, and expressed his awe of God's great artistry in stone.
Church was always at the center of Harold's life. He spent many years serving as deacon and elder, often alternating with terms on Christian School boards. But he took greatest pleasure in his expanding family, which at the time of his death had grown to 90 precious members, including 5 children, 21 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and in-laws. Harold and Marge remembered each of them in prayer, and encouraged them with frequent reminders of the Lord's faithfulness. Their heart's desire is to all meet together again at Jesus' feet.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Georgia Colette Farr, grandson Michael Brink, brothers John, Jim, Roger and Robert, and sister Jacoba.
Left to cherish his memory and legacy of faith are:
His wife of 74 years, Marjorie Larry (Georgia) Farr of Bradenton, FL, and family Dennis and Doreen Sikma of Fort Smith, AR, and family Karl and Pat Ribbens of Pella, IA, and family Ron and Sher Fulker of Pella, IA, and family Michael and Lynda Greenman of Fernley, NV, and family
