Obituary

Henry "Hank" John Van Hall, the second son of John and Margaret (Van Veldhuizen) Van Hall was born May 17, 1928, in Otley, Iowa. He passed away September 26, 2015, at the Comfort House in Pella, Iowa. Hank attended several schools in Marion and Mahaska counties. He made profession of faith at the Tracy Christian Reformed Church when he was a teen. Hank served with the United States Army from December 1950 to November 1952. He had basic training in Ft. Hood, Texas, and left Ft. Hood on July 4, 1950, for Germany. On December 3, 1952, he was united in marriage with Jeanette Pol at the Otley Reformed Church. In this union of marriage, they had three children: Arvin, Darrell and Cindy. Hank and Jeanette started farming south of Pella and Harvey and then moved to Otley. When the farm was sold in 1967, the decision was made to move to Pella to work for Baker and Rus, – the feed and seed store. In 1969, the cable broke on the elevator and Hank fell three stories, which was a terrible accident causing him to crush both heels. Hank didn't work for two years, but returned to work as the bookkeeper. Later he sold real estate until his retirement in 2000. Later Jeanette and Hank enjoyed camping and travel with the motorhome. They also wert on several trips to the Netherlands, Monte Carlo, France, Hawaii, Nova Scotia, Prince Edwards, Texas, Colorado, and Washington D.C. They also traveled by train to Vancouver, Oregon and Utah. He enjoyed coffee at McDonalds with the guys, sitting on the driveway watching the traffic and visiting with neighbors. Hank also enjoyed coyote and fox hunting. Those left to cherish his memory are: his wife Jeanette, his son Arvin (Darlene), son Darrell (Deanna), and daughter Cindy; five grandchildren: Jennifer (Tom) Caswell, Justin (Jenny) Van Hall, April (Ian) Moore, Amy (Calvin) Girard, Alayna Van Hall; nine great grandchildren: Amelia and Avery Caswell and baby boy Caswell, Alissa and Caleb Van Hall, Macie and Audrey Moore, Abraham and Alida Girard; and step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren: Megan (Grant) Ninneman, Travis (Ashley, Ashtyn, Treyton, Kyleigh) Parker, and Jenna Parker. In addition Henry is also survived by his sister Betty (Bob) Anderson, sister-in-law Janet Van Hall, and in-laws: Leonard (Betty) Pol, and Marion (Alberta) Pol. Hank was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Alvin in infancy, his brother Wilbur, his brother-in-law Harold Putzier, and in-laws Jake and Wilma (Pol) Goodyk.
