Henry Nickolas Schuring was born on August 13, 1933, at home in the town of Fifield, Iowa. He was the fifth child out of eight born to Louis and Henrietta (Kelderman) Schuring. He weighed 11 pounds.

He attended country school through 8th grade. He then started working as a hired hand on the farm he eventually would buy and own for 60 years. Henry served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1953 – 1955. In 1956, Henry married Bonnie Goemaat. Together they had three children: Rick, Lori and Bryce. In 1980, Henry married Carol Gordy who also had three children: Jeff, Cathy and Steve. Henry and Carol were married for 43 years until Carol’s death in 2023.

Henry loved farming! He operated farms near Pleasantville, Pella, Attica and Leighton, Iowa. In addition to crop farming, he also raised pigs and cattle over the years. Henry was employed as a school bus driver for 33 years for the Pella Community Schools and at Vermeer Manufacturing for 9 years.

He was an avid sports fan – rarely missing a football or basketball game for Pella High. He also loved to fish! You could find him sitting in his gator with a line in the water most days.

Henry was a member of the Open Bible Church for 63 years – he served as an elder and deacon during that time. He also taught Sunday School for many years. Later, he attended First Baptist Church.

Henry was preceded in death by his wife Carol Schuring, parents Louis and Henrietta Schuring, parents-in-law Melvin and June Silvers, and Henry’s siblings: Kenneth (Janie) Schuring, Jake (Arvena) Schuring, Jennie Breen, Beatrice (Alvin) Van Houweling, Henrietta Van Engelhoven, Robert (Delores) Schuring and Mary Lou Schuring.

Henry is also survived by his brother-in-law Dennis Silvers and sister-in-law Nancy Kaywood.
