Obituary

Herman C. Rook was born on April 20, 1930 to Cornelius (Case) and Ella (Stehr) Rook, near Indianola, Iowa.

At age four, the family moved to a farm in the Sandridge community near Pella.  Herman attended country school at Sandridge and later Pella Community High School.

On January 17, 1956 Herman was united in marriage to Marcella Goemaat at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.  To this union four children were born:  Carol, Laureen, Keith, and Larry.  He was a farmer - first with his father and brother, Lawrence, and later with his two sons, Keith and Larry.  He enjoyed farm life with his family--and especially enjoyed feeding cattle and driving truck. Herman and Marcella enjoyed many winters together in Texas.

Herman made his profession of faith at Third Reformed Church.  He was currently a member of Heartland Reformed Church in Pella.

Herman passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020 and is survived by his wife, Marcella, of 64 years; and their four children:  Carol (Verlan) Van Dyke, Laureen (Marlin) Van Wyk, Keith (Lynn) Rook, and Larry (Terrie) Rook.  Herman loved each of his nine grandchildren and their families:  Michael Van Dyke, Kevin (Ashley) Van Dyke, Bradley Van Dyke and fiancée Markee Raasch, Lance (Amanda) Van Wyk, Cody Van Wyk, Katelyn (Nick) Beyer, Jared (Amber) Rook, Jordan Rook, and Nacy (Megan) Rook.  Herman also leaves great grandchildren Kaden Van Dyke, Ellie Van Dyke, Blaine Van Dyke, Brooks Van Dyke, Jordyn Van Wyk, Kenzlie Rook, Kyler Rook, and Kase Rook.  Also surviving are his sister, Shirley (Harlan) Nieuwsma; sisters-in-law Helen Neifert, Betty Pearson, and Ruby (Roland) Van Vark.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Case and Ella Rook; brother Lawrence Rook; paternal grandparents, John and Gerrigje (Kroeze) Rook; and maternal grandparents Henry and Minnie (Loukow) Stehr; parents-in-law Marsailus and Reka Goemaat; and brothers-in-law Dale Neifert and Harlan Pearson.
