IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Janis
Anderson
November 19, 1944 – December 24, 2024
Janis Lee (Jan) Anderson, 80, of Pella, Iowa, formerly of Ottumwa, passed away peacefully at her home on December 24, 2024. She was born November 19, 1944, in Oskaloosa to Harold M. and Joyce L. Collins Anderson. Jan spent her high school years in Okinawa, Japan, while her father, who was a colonel in the Army, was stationed there.
Jan had several jobs throughout her life, including her work in Vermeer Corporation's Plant 7 Engineering Department for 16 years, from which she retired in 2016. After retirement, she worked part-time at Midwest Sanitation as the office manager until the time of her death.
Jan will be remembered for being a very giving and caring person who spent a lifetime volunteering and contributing to her community. Jan was also good at getting everyone else to volunteer. She was the first to receive the Vermeer Cares Friend of Vermeer Award, which inspired the Bob Vermeer Spirit of Caring Award for years following. She was also the recipient of the Delta Dental Iowa "Smiles" Award in 2006, as well as several Expect the Best peer-nomination awards. With her contagious laughter and zest for life, she brought joy to those around her and was an unassuming and generous advocate for causes such as local toy drives, sending military care packages, community events and more.
Jan was preceded in death by her brother Jack Anderson in November 2024, as well as her parents.
As was her wish, there will be no services.
To honor Jan, a memorial has been established in her name with Well Works at The Well in Pella.
