Obituary

Jaybe Cornelius Steenhoek was born March 23, 1926, to Simon and Wilhelmina "Winnie" (Mol) Steenhoek, in Pella.  He passed away on June 25, 2019, at Northern Mahaska Specialty Care in Oskaloosa.

Jaybe attended Flint Ridge Country School. On March 2, 1946, he was united in marriage to Ada De Haan in Pella. They shared the next 71 years together and were blessed with three daughters: Dixie Kay, Bonnie Jo and Jayni Sue.  They lived near Pella their whole lives. Jaybe and Ada joined Third Reformed Church shortly after they were married and have been members there ever since. He worked a short time for Rolscreen (now known as Pella Corp.), Gosselink Builders, John Van Arkel Trucking, as a farm hand, and for Oakwood Cemetery for 38 years before retiring in 1990. He owned the Steenhoek Monument Company for 65 years.

Jaybe and Ada loved traveling. They spent every winter in Florida for 20 years. Jaybe could never wait to get started. He would tell Ada, "just throw some stuff in a suitcase and let's go."

Jaybe is survived by his three daughters, seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
