Carolyn Jean Brockway was born May 4, 1941, to Richard and Verda (Kelley) Brown in Decorah, Iowa.
Jeanie grew up in Decorah, Ottumwa, and Eldon, before graduating from Pella High School in 1959. She went on to attend nursing school in Marshalltown.
On September 18, 1962, Jeanie and Jack eloped while Jack was in the service. They later were married on January 19, 1963, in a church in Fairfield, Iowa. For the first few years of marriage, they moved around due to Jack’s naval service. They settled in Pella in 1970 where Jeanie worked as a nurse at the VA Hospital in Knoxville for 34 years before retiring in 2005. During retirement, she worked as a school nurse and did in-home nursing for many years. She loved caring for others.
Jeanie loved spending time with her kids, grandkids and great grandkids going to their activities. She enjoyed chaperoning Rotary International Students Trips. Together, Jack and Jeanie traveled to all 50 states, many national parks, and 120 countries.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Jack and their family:
Tim and Tammee Brockway, Altoona, Iowa
Tanner (Madalyn) Brockway
Jordan (Kaylee) Brockway
Dylan Brockway and fiancée Megan Kimrey
Terry Brockway, Lake Mary, Florida
Jessi (Julian) Brown
Alaysia, Kyrie
Dallas (Logan) Birkenholtz
Shylee, Ryelyn, Skylette
Briana (Hannah) Brockway
Kimberly and Chris Baker, Iowa City, Iowa
Jeanie is also survived by two brothers: Steve (Ellie) Brown of Jefferson, and Reg (Bindy) Brown of Des Moines, and many other family members.
Jeanie was preceded in death by her daughter Tammy in infancy, parents Richard and Verda Brown, and parents-in-law Jim and Mae Brockway.
